Overview

 

Working within the Packaging Divisions Design & Innovation Team, this role is fundamental in driving the development and deployment of our Design Tools and Services that will support our Corporate Plan objectives.

Reporting to the Design & Innovation Director of DS Smith Packaging Division, the Head of Design is responsible for:

  • Driving the development and deployment of our D&I Tools and Services
  • Development and alignment of our D&I organisational structures, skills and competences
 

And also supporting:

Our drive for increasing the level of proactive Innovation focused on scale Customer and Market challenges.

Driving efficiencies and leveraging our scale across the D&I network.

The Head of Design role will be based in the UK or Belgium and the successful candidate must be able to travel - appr. 2-3 nights a week away from home base.
 
 
 

Main responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following


Leadership

Inspire, motivate and manage the D&I network to support D&I and Corporate Plan objectives.

Drive best practice, alignment and common ways of working across the D&I Community.

Management of direct and indirect D&I teams.

 

Design Tools & Services

Technical maintenance, usage and driving the development of existing and new Design Tools with a focus on;  increasing efficiencies internally, virtual collaboration internally and externally and differentiating our Customer Offer in Design and Innovation.

 

Design Processes  

Drive development, alignment and deployment of design processes, systems, KPI’s and ways of working.

Drive development, alignment and deployment of design hardware and software required to support an efficient design process.

 

Design People, Roles & Skills

Drive development, alignment and deployment of D&I Organisational Structures, Job Descriptions, Skills and Competencies across the D&I Network to support Corporate Plan objectives to drive Innovation and Efficiencies.

Developing the right D&I skill resources to fit company objectives.

Training programmes. 
 
 
 

What we would like our candidate to have


Education & Certifications
Degree level (Design Related Subject) or equivalent experience

Technical Requirements
Technical / Structural Design skills (Artios CAD, etc.)
Project management skills
Fluent in English, any other European languages are a plus
MS Office skills – advanced
Able to operate in a matrix organization and with an international mindset
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Good interpersonal and networking skills


Experience

 5 years plus in a technical D&I management role with a focus on Design Tools, Systems and Processes in the Packaging Industry

 Direct customer contact / responsibility in a D&I role for a min of two years
